Equinox Top 5 Lists -

So here we go again folks – what every avid tournament goer has been waiting for my top 5 Equinox lists! There were actually some hard picks to formulate the top 5 and I don’t think there is much between the top 15 lists in the field. These choices came down to what I see as the strongest list design given the meta and balanced against the other lists. I am not putting my own list up regardless of where I think it places but I am pretty happy with my list choices given what the field is brining. Also with some of these lists I don’t actually know who is pushing them. I know some and have made educated guesses with others. So without further ado…. Just a note these are not really in top 5 order as there wasn't much between them.

1. Rory Finnemore/Skaven You would have to be living under a rock away from the internet not have heard Rory’s challenge that he will take skaven and prove how broken they are… I actually had a hand in this by posting the list, a list I have used before and borrowed from Ben Johnson in the UK. Make no mistakes this list is a power house. It has all the toys to deal with all comers. Tales of Skaven decline are unfounded and they are still the best army in Warhammer. The only thing Rory might struggle with is the special rules of the skaven and getting 6 turns in.

2. Sam Whitt/Orcs and Goblins – another member of the Warhammer Celebrity group (we really are that good!) Sam Whitt rocks in with this well thought out and extremely tough O&G list. It has the counters to many of the lists in the meta and I think can do extremely well. There are several “maverick” O&G’s lists but this has combat, magic, shooting and the chaff from hell. Look for Sam to be up there on day 2.

3. Tim Joss – Chaos Dwarves My first round opponent and packing a rock solid list. The magic lore was a key thing that just had it ahead of the other Chaos Dwarf list and the extra war machines. This list will give people a lot of problems and I expect Tim to do well.

4. Ross Hillier-Jones/ Warriors of Chaos What am I doing putting Ross in the top 5?! All jokes aside I think this is hands down the best WOC list at the event. What Ross does with it is another matter! The Daemon Prince is a potential nightmare for armies and he has kitted him out to deal with one of the main hard counters metal magic. If he can survive cannons early and make combat this guy is a beast. He is backed up by a solid core choice and excellent combat punch in the skull crushers in a unit of 5.

5. Rich Barby – Chaos Dwarves again a very tough chaos dwarf list that a lot of people won’t have played and so can do horrible things to people. Death over Hashut is an interesting choice and I think could do well. The wolf riders as chaff I also like as a nice touch.

A couple of the vamp lists came close as did a couple of the Daemon lists (Pappa Nurgle) and of course the ogre lists could have made this list but here you have my top 5! Let me know your thoughts, did I get it right/wrong? Two Chaos Dwarves in the top 5.. just proves how broken they are!

Pre-Equinox lull

So we have entered a bit of a lull this week in the build-up for Equinox. With Pete not coming I can't indulge in my usual sport of skaven baiting.. Well maybe I can anyway! Hopefully lists will be out soon so I can break down my "Top 5 lists". I am also picking up the beer mug for "Top Warhammer Celebrity" tonight.

So with that in mind I just thought I would share a pic of my firebelly that I finished this week. This is the second one in my list and I wanted to do something a little different so I went for blue flames. To say it was a bit of ball ache was an understatement but I am pretty happy with the result.

So I'll leave you with something I heard on a UK podcast said before a game to set the tone... "I'm here to have fun, but I'm also here to win"

Battle of the Blogs!

So with Equinox fast approaching and only one question on anyone’s mind…. (Well maybe not!) Who will win the battle of the blogs and finish highest out of the self-styled Warhammer celebrities?

I give you the challengers to this lofty title as Blog Champion… There can only be one….. There are certainly no chumps in this list and I would expect us all bar collapse to be up around the top tables battling it out.

James Brown “The People’s Champion” NZ Hammered – none other than me.. . The esteemed writer of this blog. My goals for Equinox – I would view a top 5 finish as a great result given the field. I feel confident enough in my gaming ability/list that if I can play well and eliminate some of the small mental errors it is achievable. As Pete rightly says it’s time for me to perform on the big stage after two 1^st places at smaller tournaments and 3^rd at NZTC the time in now…

A newcomer to the NZ scene who I had the pleasure of playing at ArchEnemy. A solid player who is bringing a new list to Equinox in the skink cloud lizards. This could either be a genius move or backfire as they are an army that requires constant concentration around flee angles and movement and I believe Jeff is fairly new to them.
